Where Did God Come From?
Generally, I do not like to use the comments of scientists as an answer to spiritual or scriptural questions. However, in Steve McVey’s book Quantum Prayer, he quotes several well‑known and high‑profile scientists who had been either agnostic or atheist for years. Their studies in quantum mechanics and quantum realities have forced them to conclude—often against their will—that there is not only a reality beyond the material world, but a consciousness that contains, sustains, and undergirds all reality.
This consciousness not only sustains all things but is, in itself, the origin of all that exists. These scientists have admitted that the evidence shows this consciousness is self‑aware, fully aware of humanity, and active both in the world we can see and in the realms we cannot see.
The facts indicate that this consciousness, which suffers no degradation, must by necessity be an eternal constant. It must be eternal in its nature and must be the “first cause” of all creation. This means that the “first cause” is not bound by the realities of creation. It supersedes creation, is not contained within it, and yet permeates it—giving it complete governance over all that exists.
All the attributes of this consciousness, which are evident and observable through scientific inquiry, have forced many scientists to agree with the Scriptures: everything Scripture tells us about God is reflected both in the world we see and in the quantum world we cannot see.
This means that the state in which God exists is best understood as the Eternal State. Quantum science, in its own way, affirms God’s eternal claim:
How this can be—both scientifically and theologically—is beyond the capabilities of human understanding. We simply cannot grasp it. God is eternal. He is self‑existing. There is no adequate way to explain to human satisfaction how God is. He simply is. There is no “first cause” that brought God into being.
Many scientists have been forced to capitulate to this reality and admit that God is. They may not understand His nature, but the question of His existence has been settled by their own methodology, and many have become believers.
Ultimately, the greatest confirmation of Scripture’s witness is the resurrection of Christ. That event is the final affirmation that everything we read in Scripture is true. If Christ has not been raised, then Scripture and faith collapse. But the resurrection confirms that Jesus is exactly who Scripture declares Him to be.
Old Testament Witness
• Genesis 21:33 — Abraham “called on the name of the Everlasting God.”
• Deuteronomy 33:27 — “The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
• Psalm 90:2 — “Before the mountains were brought forth… from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”
• Psalm 93:2 — “Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting.”
• Psalm 102:25–27 — Creation will perish, “but you remain… your years have no end.”
• Isaiah 40:28 — “The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.”
• Isaiah 57:15 — God is “the One who inhabits eternity.”
• Habakkuk 1:12 — “Are you not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One?”
St. Paul’s Teaching: Creation Reveals God
Romans 1:19–20
This is St. Paul’s foundational statement. He argues that:
• God has already revealed Himself to all people.
• Creation is the medium of that revelation.
• God’s eternal power and divine nature are visible through what He made.
• Therefore, no one can claim ignorance of God’s existence.
This is the classic text for general revelation—God making Himself known through the created order.
