Scripture
“And the Word became flesh” -John
1:14.
One of the quiet miracles of the
Gospel is that Jesus did not simply visit humanity—He became one of us. “Jesus shares our humanity; he is one of
us.” Through the incarnation, the eternal Son stepped fully into our human
experience so that nothing in our lives would be foreign to Him.
Jesus calls Himself the Son of Man not
as a title of distance, but of nearness. He knows hunger, weariness, sorrow,
joy, and the weight of obedience. He understands temptation and suffering from
the inside. Scripture reminds us that we do not have a High Priest who is
unable to sympathize with our weakness, but One who has been “tempted in
every way, just as we are—yet without sin” -Heb. 4:15
Because Jesus is truly human, He is
gentle with us. He “is able to deal gently with those who are
ignorant and are going astray,” a truth drawn from Hebrews 5:2. His humanity
means He does not shame us when we stumble—He lifts us, restores us, and brings
us again to the Father’s throne of grace.
And His humanity did not remain in the
grave. “It is Jesus’ humanity that rose and defeated death from within death
itself.” His risen human life is now the source of our new life. We live
not by our own strength, but—as St. Paul says—by “the life I live by
faith of the Son of God” -Gal. 2:20.
Because Jesus shares our humanity, we
share His life. Because He is one with us, we are one with Him. Because He is
our Brother, we are God’s beloved children.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for taking on our
humanity—fully, lovingly, willingly. Thank You that You know us from the
inside, that You Walk with us in weakness, and that You lift us into Your own
life. Help us live today in the confidence that we are united with You, now and
forever. Amen.
