Scripture
“Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” — Matthew 12:34
God has never been silent. Though human language is limited, the Triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — has chosen to speak to us in words we can understand. Scripture is not merely information; it is God opening His heart.
The Father speaks through His Word, declaring, “I am God” (Isa. 42:8–9; 44:6,8). And what comes from His mouth comes from His heart. Jesus tells us this plainly: “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” When God speaks, He reveals His deepest desire — to make Himself known.
Hebrews tells us that in these last days God has spoken through His Son, “the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His being” (Heb. 1:1–3). When Philip asked to see the Father, Jesus answered, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). Jesus is the Father’s heart made visible.
The Holy Spirit, the divine Author of Scripture, carries this revelation to us. He guides us into truth, glorifying Christ and making known what belongs to the Father (John 16:12–15). The Spirit speaks of the Son, the Son reveals the Father, and the Father sends the Spirit. This is the Trinity of the Word.
“All Scripture is God‑breathed” (2 Tim. 3:16). The same breath that gave life to Adam breathes life into the pages of Scripture. And the eternal Word became flesh (John 1:14), so that in Jesus “all the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily” (Col. 2:9).
When we come to Jesus, we encounter the fullness of God. When we open Scripture, we encounter the same fullness — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit speaking with one voice.
This Word works in us, transforming and renewing us (1 Thess. 2:13), drawing us into the eternal life Jesus described: “that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3).
Prayer
Holy God, Thank You for speaking to us from Your heart. Through Your Word, let us see the Son, and through the Son, let us know the Father, as the Spirit opens our eyes to Your truth. Draw us into deeper communion with You — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — today, tomorrow and forevermore. Amen.
