Christ Our Foundation

When my son Jonathan was six years old, he walked into my office and said something wonderfully simple and profoundly true:
“Dad, if you build your house on sand, it will fall down. You should build on a big rock.”
So I asked him, “What’s the Rock?”
Without hesitation he answered, “Jesus!”
And when I asked what the sand was, he said, “Anything else.”
Jesus told the same truth long before Jonathan did. In Matthew 7:24–27, He describes two builders—one wise, one foolish. Both built houses. Both faced storms. But only one house stood, because only one was built on the rock.
The Sand That Fails
Around the Sea of Galilee, the dry sand can look firm—solid enough to build on. But when the rains come, that sand turns to mud and washes away. Many lives are built the same way: on things that look stable until the storms arrive.
Success, relationships, money, reputation, even religion—none of these can hold the weight of a soul when the winds rise.
The Rock That Holds
Just beneath that sand in Galilee lies massive, immovable bedrock. It never shifts. It never dissolves. It never fails.

Jesus is that Rock.
To build on Him is to hear His words and put them into practice—to trust Him, follow Him, and anchor our lives in who He is. Storms will still come. Winds will still blow. But the house stands, because the foundation is Christ.
No Other Foundation
Scripture is clear: “That Rock was Christ” (1 Cor. 10:4).
St. Peter may be a stone, but Jesus is the Petra—the great Rock on which the Church stands (Matt. 16:18).
Everything else is sand. Everything else will eventually give way.
A Life That Stands
Jesus is always near—practically underfoot, like the Galilean bedrock. Strong. Steady. Unshakable.
Build your life on Him. Clear away the sand. Let Christ be the foundation beneath your feet.
Benediction
May we each build the house of our lives upon Jesus Christ—the Rock today, tomorrow, and forevermore. Amen.
