Church, today we listen to Ambrose of Milan, one of the most influential pastors of the fourth century. He was not born into ministry — he was a Roman governor. But when the church needed a shepherd, the people cried out for Ambrose. He was baptized, ordained, and consecrated bishop in a single week.
Ambrose became: • defender of the poor • protector of the church • teacher of worship • composer of hymns • mentor to Augustine
