Based on the Revised Common Lectionary
Scripture Theme: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though
he die, yet shall he live.” — John 11:25
This prayer begins with the triumphant heart of the gospel: God has
overcome death through His only‑begotten Son.
The resurrection is not merely an event to remember; it is a victory that
reshapes reality. Christ has not only conquered death—He has opened the gate
of everlasting life. What was once sealed by sin is now wide open by grace.
What was once feared is now transformed into hope.
The prayer then turns from Christ’s resurrection to ours: that we who
celebrate the day of the Lord’s resurrection may be raised from the death of
sin.
This is the daily miracle of the Christian life. Resurrection is not only
our future; it is our present. The Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is the
same Spirit who raises us from:
- old patterns
- old wounds
- old sins
- old fears
- old ways of living
The “death of sin” is not just wrongdoing—it is the spiritual numbness,
the inward decay, the self‑reliance that keeps us from the life God intends.
But the life‑giving Spirit awakens us, renews us, and draws us into the
freedom of resurrection life.
To celebrate Easter is to step into this ongoing work of God— to let the
risen Christ breathe life into what has grown cold, to let His Spirit raise
what has fallen, to let His victory become our transformation.
To pray this prayer is to say: “Lord, raise me again. Raise me today.
Raise me into the life You have opened for me.”
Prayer
Almighty God, through the resurrection of Your Son You have conquered
death and opened the gate of everlasting life. Raise us from the death of sin
by Your life‑giving Spirit, that we may walk in the joy and power of Christ’s
risen life. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
