Scripture
Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a chosen and
precious cornerstone, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”
— 1 Peter 2:6
The Church is not an accident of
history or a human invention. She is something God has built—carefully,
intentionally, lovingly. This prayer reminds us that the foundation beneath our
feet is not shifting sand but the steady witness of the apostles and prophets,
all pointing to the One who holds everything together: Jesus Christ, the
chief cornerstone.
A cornerstone sets the alignment for
the whole structure. If it is true, the building stands firm. If it is crooked,
everything leans. Christ is the Cornerstone because He alone is perfectly
true—true God, true man, true Savior. Everything in the Church takes its shape
from Him.
But the prayer goes further. It asks
that we, the living stones, might be joined together in unity of Spirit.
Unity is not something we manufacture by effort or agreement. It is something
the Spirit creates as we submit ourselves to the teaching handed down through
the apostles and prophets—teaching that always leads us back to Christ.
When we are joined to Christ, we are
joined to one another. When we stand on His truth, we stand together. When we
build on His life, we become a holy temple— a place where God delights to
dwell.
This is the miracle of the Church:
ordinary people, shaped by extraordinary grace, fitted together into a dwelling
place for God.
Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, our Cornerstone,
align our lives with Your truth. Join us together in the unity of the Spirit,
that we may be built into a holy temple, a people who reflect Your beauty and
bear Your name with joy. Keep us steady on the foundation You have laid, until
the whole Church stands complete in Your glory ,today, tomorrow and forevermore..
Amen.
