Scripture
“Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him.” — Luke 24:31
Reflection
On the road to Emmaus, the risen Jesus walked beside two discouraged disciples who could not recognize Him. Their hopes were bruised, their faith shaken, their understanding dim. Yet Jesus drew near anyway—quietly, patiently—opening the Scriptures and warming their hearts with truth they didn’t yet fully grasp.
It wasn’t until they sat at the table that everything changed.
Jesus took the bread, blessed it, broke it, and placed it into their hands.
And in that simple act, their eyes were opened.
The One they thought they lost was the One who had been with them all along.
Though He vanished from their sight, the bread remained—just as the ancient Showbread remained in the sanctuary as a sign of God’s abiding presence. So too, the Communion bread reminds us today that Jesus is with us, unseen yet truly present, revealing Himself to the eyes of faith.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to recognize You in the breaking of the bread.
Let the simple gifts You place in my hands remind me that You are alive and with me.
Stay with me in every moment, and keep my heart burning with Your truth. Amen.
