The Christ Like Life

Based on the Revised Common Lectionary,

This prayer begins with a beautiful affirmation of what God is doing among His people: “Living God, you raise us to fullness of being in sharing the Christ life together.” The Christian life is not lived in isolation. We are raised, strengthened, and formed together as we share in the life of Christ — His love, His humility, His obedience, His joy.
Fullness of being is not something we achieve; it is something God gives as we participate in the life of His Son.
The prayer then asks God to teach us to pray. Prayer is not merely a discipline; it is a relationship. We learn it the way children learn language — by being with the One who loves us. And we ask for hopeful persistence in seeking God’s will and God’s way.
Persistence is not stubbornness; it is trust that God is good, God is listening, and God is leading.
The heart of the prayer is a longing for transformation: “that by the power of the Spirit, love and faithfulness may meet to disarm the powers of the world.” This is the Christ like life in action.
Not force. Not fear. Not domination. But love and faithfulness — the very character of Jesus — confronting and undoing the destructive powers that shape our world.
Where love and faithfulness meet, the Kingdom breaks in.
Reflection
Where is God inviting you to persist in prayer today? And how might the Spirit be calling you to embody Christ like love and faithfulness in a place where the world expects something very different?
Prayer
Living God, raise me into the fullness of Christ’s life. Teach me to pray with hope, to seek Your will with trust, and to walk in the Spirit’s power so that love and faithfulness may shine through me. Amen.
