Scripture
“The Lord will be our Mighty One…
It will be like a place of broad rivers and streams” -Isaiah 33:21.
Isaiah gives us a breathtaking picture
of Zion—God’s dwelling place—where broad rivers flow with peace, justice,
mercy, and grace. It is a vision of life lived not under the strain of human
effort, but under the gentle movement of God Himself.
“The Lord will be our Mighty One…
It will be like a place of broad rivers and streams” (Isaiah 33:21). These
waters are not meant for the great ships of human striving—those vessels
powered by chained rowers, driven by taskmasters who are never satisfied.
Isaiah says such ships cannot sail here. Zion’s waters are not for the oars of
legalism, but for the sails of grace.
Many of us know what it feels like to
row endlessly—trying harder, doing more, hoping our effort will finally bring
us peace. But Jesus came to free us from the oars. “From His fullness we
have all received grace upon grace… grace and truth came through Jesus Christ”
(John 1:16–17).
Grace is the wind of God’s Spirit
filling our sails. It moves us—not with exhaustion, but with rest. Not with
fear, but with freedom. Jesus invites us out of the galley and onto the deck: “Come
to me… and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
To hoist the sail is simply to trust
Him. To let His Spirit carry us. To believe that the life God desires for us is
not achieved by rowing harder, but by resting deeper.
The waters of Zion are for those who
will let the wind of grace move them. “Be still, and know that I am God”
(Psalm 46:10).
May we lay down the oars of religion
and lift the sails of faith. For where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is
freedom—and the broad, peaceful waters of Zion await.
Prayer
Lord
Jesus, teach us to lay down the oars of our own striving and to rest in Your
grace. Fill the sails of our lives with Your Spirit, guide us in Your peace,
and carry us closer to Your heart, today, tomorrow and forevermore. Amen.
