Scripture
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” — Romans 12:10
Reflection
Honor is not optional in the Christian life—it is a command rooted in the very heart of God. When St. Paul calls us to “honor one another,” he uses the Greek word timē, meaning great worth, precious value, a high price paid. This is how God sees every believer.
Each person you meet—especially within the household of faith—has been purchased at the highest cost: the blood of Jesus Christ. The cross reveals the immeasurable worth God has placed upon every soul.
To honor one another, then, is to see each person through the lens of Christ’s sacrifice. It means loving sincerely, rejecting what is evil, clinging to what is good, and placing the needs of others above our own. It means remembering that every believer is a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, a member of Christ’s own body.
Dishonor divides; honor unites. Dishonor wounds the body; honor strengthens it. When we honor one another, we reflect the humility of Jesus, who laid down His life for us “while we were still sinners.”
May the Spirit teach us to see one another as God sees us—precious, redeemed, and worthy of Christlike love.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You have purchased us with Your own blood and made us members of Your body. Give us eyes to see the worth You have placed upon every person. Teach us to honor one another with sincerity, humility, and love. Guard our hearts from division, selfish ambition, and harsh judgment. Fill us with Your Spirit, that we may build up Your Church and reflect Your heart. Make our lives a testimony of the honor You have shown us in Your cross and resurrection, today, tomorrow and forevermore. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
