The Didache : Teaching of the Twelve Apostles, AD 50–120

The Didache

Walking the Way of Life

The Didache opens with a striking declaration: “There are two ways: one of life and one of death.”

The way of life is marked by love—love for God, love for neighbor, love expressed in generosity, forgiveness, purity, and compassion. The way of death is shaped by selfishness, hardness of heart, and the refusal to love.

This ancient catechism reminds us that discipleship is intentional. We do not drift into holiness. We walk into it—step by step, choice by choice, day by day. The way of life is not a path of perfection but a path of direction. We walk it by walking with Jesus, the One who is Himself the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Prayer

Lord, lead us in the way of life. Shape our steps after Your Son and teach us to love as You love today, tomorrow and forevermore.  Amen.
