The Creed of Lucian of Antioch AD 300

Lucian of Antioch

Devotional — Holding Fast to the True Christ

Lucian of Antioch, a teacher of many early bishops, produced a creed that affirmed Christ’s true divinity and humanity. Though later versions were altered by others, the original creed stands as a witness to early orthodoxy.

This creed reminds us that the Church has always guarded the identity of Jesus. Not a lesser god. Not a created being. But the eternal Son who became truly human for our salvation.

Lucian’s confession calls us to hold fast to the Christ of Scripture — fully God, fully human, fully Savior.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, keep us faithful to the truth of who You are. Let our hearts cling to You as the eternal Son made flesh, today, tomorrow and forevermore. Amen.
