The
Faith First Confessed
The Old Roman Creed is the earliest
form of what became the Apostles’ Creed. It was spoken by believers preparing
for baptism in the second century, long before the Church formalized later
creeds.
This ancient confession reminds us
that the Christian faith is not built on speculation but on the simple, steady
truth of who God is and what He has done. Early believers stood in the waters
and declared their trust in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — not as
an academic exercise, but as a surrender of their whole lives.
Their faith was simple, but not
shallow. It was brief, but not thin. It was small in words, but vast in
meaning.
The Old Roman Creed calls us back to
the center: Christ crucified, risen, and reigning.
Prayer
Lord, return us to the simplicity and
strength of the earliest confession. Let our faith be clear, steady, and
centered on You, today, tomorrow and forevermore. Amen.
