The God Who Took It All On Himself

Athanasius of Alexandria, defending the heart of the Christian faith, wrote a line that still echoes with power: “What is not assumed is not redeemed.” ..Athanasius of Alexandria, On the Incarnation

Scripture

“And the Word became flesh”- John: 1:14

With these few words, he captured the breathtaking truth of the Incarnation: Christ saved us by taking on everything that makes us human.

He did not come as a spirit hovering above our pain. He did not take on a partial humanity, untouched by weakness or sorrow. He entered fully into our condition—body, mind, emotion, vulnerability, limitation—so that every part of us might be healed.

If Jesus had not taken a real human body, our bodies could not be redeemed. If He had not taken a real human mind, our thoughts could not be renewed. If He had not taken a real human will, our desires could not be restored. If He had not taken our suffering, our suffering could not be transformed. If He had not taken our death, death itself could not be defeated.

Athanasius reminds us that Christ saves by solidarity. He redeems by drawing near. He heals by entering the very places where we are broken.

This means there is no part of your life—no wound, no fear, no weakness—that Christ refuses to touch. He has already stepped into it. He has already carried it. He has already redeemed it.

The Incarnation is not simply a doctrine to affirm. It is a comfort to rest in. A promise to cling to. A hope that reaches into every corner of our humanity.

Because everything Christ assumed, Christ redeemed.

Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, You took on our full humanity so that we might share in Your life. Enter every place in us that needs Your healing, every fear that needs Your peace, every weakness that needs Your strength. Thank You for redeeming us completely— body, mind, and soul, today, tomorrow and forevermore Amen.
